Shailendra Gupta received his first degree in biological sciences in 1999 followed by a second degree in computer applications in 2004. Combination of these two interdisciplinary research fields motived him to start his career as computational biologist. He joined CSIR-Indian Institute of Toxicology Research, Lucknow India in 2007 as senior scientist in systems toxicology group where he spent almost seven years. He received ‘Young Scientist Award’ from Council of Science and Technology, Govt. of Uttar Pradesh India in 2011. He finished his PhD in Bioinformatics in 2013 before joining the team of Prof. Olaf Wolkenhauer at University of Rostock, Germany as postdoctoral researcher. In his last few projects funded by BMBF, he implemented systems methodology to identify dual role of E2F1 in tumor progression, metastasis and assess the risk of tumor relapse in melanoma by profiling plasma-derived extracellular vesicles.
His strength is to construct integrative workflows combining various computational methods with experimentation to understand phenomenon in molecular biology and medical problems. The core areas of his research include signaling and regulatory network analysis, development of computational workflows, data integration, modeling and analysis for the identification of potential diagnostic and therapeutic targets.
