Yolanda Correia
Project Title: Enhancing imaging of the placenta in murine models of preeclampsia and standardization of preeclampsia models
Yolanda obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Forensic Biology at Kingston University London in 2017, during which she did an exchange year at Baldwin Wallace University in Cleveland, Ohio, in the United States. Her bachelor’s dissertation focused on “A comparison of anthroposcopic and anthropometric methods of sex determination using innominate bones”.
After completing her Bachelor’s degree, she was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to conduct a Master’s in Forensic Biology with a concentration in DNA analysis at Virginia Commonwealth University in the United States. Her master’s research consisted in selecting and testing antibody candidates for optimal spermatozoa capture and developing a bead-based antibody assay for its incorporation on a previously designed microdevice. While conducting her Master’s degree, her passion and interest for biotechnology and genetically modified organisms grew deeper, which is why she seized the opportunity of being part of the iPLACENTA team and pursuing her PhD.
